La Despensa de Palacio's chocolate a la taza is a Spanish classic — the kind of drinking chocolate that belongs in a porcelain cup on a winter morning or a summer midnight snack with churros. This 700-gram tin holds finely ground cacao blended for that thick, almost creamy texture that Spanish hot chocolate drinkers expect: not a thin cocoa drink, but something substantial enough to coat the spoon.

About this product

A la taza means "by the cup" — it's a preparation style, not a temperature. The powder is whisked with hot milk (or water, though milk is traditional) until it thickens into a near-pudding. La Despensa de Palacio balances sweetness with enough cocoa depth to remind you this is chocolate, not candy. The tin packaging keeps it fresh and is a staple in Spanish pantries and gift boxes alike.

How to enjoy

  • Whisk two to three tablespoons into hot milk until thick and creamy; sweeten further if you prefer.
  • Pair with churros, tostadas, or simply a spoon for dunking.
  • Use cooler milk and more powder for a spread or chocolate sauce over desserts.
  • Warm it gently in a saucepan — never boil — to preserve the cocoa flavor.

⭐ Why we love this

La Despensa de Palacio chocolate a la taza captures the soul of Spanish chocolate tradition — thick, rich, and unapologetically indulgent in a way that instant cocoa powder never achieves. This is the drink that sustained Spanish families through centuries, and the brand's careful cocoa blend proves that authentic a la taza isn't about convenience; it's about ritual and genuine chocolate flavor.

🍷 Pairing suggestion

Whisk this into steaming whole milk for the classic Spanish breakfast pairing with churros for dunking, or enjoy it as a late-night merienda with tostadas and quince paste (membrillo). For a grown-up twist, add a shot of brandy or licor 43 for a warming winter nightcap.

📍 From Spain

La Despensa de Palacio is sourced from Spain's premium chocolate makers, carrying the heritage of Spanish chocolate craftsmanship that dates back centuries.

Customer Reviews

The USPS required a signature on the delivery. This was unknown to me. I had to drive 30+ mile to retrieve the item, vice delivery to my address.

Finca La Rosala Marcona Almonds with Rosemary – Roasted Spanish Snack – Pack of 2 (2 × 90g)

Store owner replied: Thank you for the five stars, James, and I'm sorry about that drive. Our parcels travel as tracked international post with Correos in Spain, and USPS takes over for delivery in the US. We don't ask for a signature when we post, but it turns out USPS releases these parcels against one. At most addresses that just means signing at the door; in your case the delivery didn't go through, so USPS held it at the nearest post office, and that cost you a long trip. The surprise is partly on us, so we're adding a clear line about it to our shipping information. We can't give you back the time, but to cover the fuel we'd like to offer you $15 off anything in the shop on your next order. - Mateo, Iberian Direct
