Quantity

Bonito del Norte—the prized white tuna of Spain's northern coast—arrives in each tin as tender, delicate fillets swimming in extra virgin olive oil. El Capricho has sourced these from the Cantabrian waters where this species thrives, and the result is a conserva refined enough for a simple plate with good bread, assertive enough for salads and composed dishes.

Each fillet is carefully packed to preserve the subtle, buttery texture that distinguishes white tuna from its darker cousins. The extra virgin olive oil acts both as a preservative and as an extension of the flavor—expect no fishy funk, only a clean, mild brine and the gentle warmth of premium oil.

How to enjoy

  • Serve chilled on toasted bread with a small dot of mayonnaise and roasted red pepper
  • Flake into a warm potato salad with sherry vinegar and fresh parsley
  • Layer onto a plate with good olives, anchovies, and quince paste for a simple montadito board
  • Dress simply with lemon, sea salt, and a drizzle of the jar's oil over bitter greens

⭐ Why we love this

Bonito del Norte is Spain's most coveted conserva—a fish so prized it commands premium prices and protected status in the Cantabrian Sea. El Capricho's restraint with just oil and brine lets the delicate, buttery flesh speak for itself, making this the gold standard for Spanish pantry sophistication.

🍷 Pairing suggestion

Pair with a crisp Txakoli from the Basque Country or a chilled Albariño to echo the briny minerality of the Cantabrian coast. Alternatively, serve as part of a Spanish seafood tapas spread with Manzanilla sherry and fresh bread for an authentic coastal experience.

📍 From Spain

Sourced from the frigid Cantabrian waters of Spain's northern coast—the only region where true Bonito del Norte thrives with its signature pale flesh and delicate flavor. El Capricho's commitment to this specific provenance ensures you're tasting the essence of Spain's maritime heritage.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 5 / 5 from 1 reviews.

The USPS required a signature on the delivery. This was unknown to me. I had to drive 30+ mile to retrieve the item, vice delivery to my address.

Finca La Rosala Marcona Almonds with Rosemary – Roasted Spanish Snack – Pack of 2 (2 × 90g)

Store owner replied: Thank you for the five stars, James, and I'm sorry about that drive. Our parcels travel as tracked international post with Correos in Spain, and USPS takes over for delivery in the US. We don't ask for a signature when we post, but it turns out USPS releases these parcels against one. At most addresses that just means signing at the door; in your case the delivery didn't go through, so USPS held it at the nearest post office, and that cost you a long trip. The surprise is partly on us, so we're adding a clear line about it to our shipping information. We can't give you back the time, but to cover the fuel we'd like to offer you $15 off anything in the shop on your next order. - Mateo, Iberian Direct
