Quantity

Doña Rosario has mastered the art of the Spanish escabeche — a centuries-old pickle that transforms fresh mussels into a refined tapa. These plump, briny mussels are packed in a sharp vinegar and spice marinade, with just 4–6 choice specimens per 120-gram tin to ensure quality over quantity.

About this product

Each mussel is hand-selected and cooked before bottling in a balanced escabeche of vinegar, olive oil, and warming spices. The result is a tender, tangy bite with a whisper of bay leaf and black peppercorn. This is not a heavy preserve — it is a delicate, savory condiment that tastes like it was made in a small Galician kitchen, even though it arrives in an elegant tin.

How to enjoy

  • Serve straight from the tin as a cold tapa with crusty bread and a glass of Albariño or vermouth.
  • Toss into a composed salad of white beans, roasted red peppers, and cured ham.
  • Spoon over grilled fish or add to a seafood pasta just before serving.
  • Layer into a Spanish charcuterie board alongside manchego, Iberian ham, and marinated artichokes.

⭐ Why we love this

Escabeche is the soul of Spanish pickling tradition—a technique perfected over centuries in Galicia where seafood preservation meets art. Doña Rosario's restraint (just 4–6 mussels per tin) honors the ingredient itself rather than drowning it, letting the vinegar's sharp bite and spice's warmth become a true flavor partnership.

🍷 Pairing suggestion

Serve as a pre-dinner tapa with a crisp, mineral Albariño from Rías Baixas—the wine's acidity mirrors the escabeche's bite perfectly. Alternatively, pair with a dry Fino sherry and crusty pan de pueblo for an authentic Spanish aperitivo moment.

📍 From Spain

Doña Rosario sources from Galicia, Spain's seafood heartland, where Atlantic mussels are prized for their tender meat and briny sweetness. This region's centuries-old escabeche tradition ensures every tin carries authentic Galician craftsmanship straight to your table.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 5 / 5 from 1 reviews.

The USPS required a signature on the delivery. This was unknown to me. I had to drive 30+ mile to retrieve the item, vice delivery to my address.

Finca La Rosala Marcona Almonds with Rosemary – Roasted Spanish Snack – Pack of 2 (2 × 90g)

Store owner replied: Thank you for the five stars, James, and I'm sorry about that drive. Our parcels travel as tracked international post with Correos in Spain, and USPS takes over for delivery in the US. We don't ask for a signature when we post, but it turns out USPS releases these parcels against one. At most addresses that just means signing at the door; in your case the delivery didn't go through, so USPS held it at the nearest post office, and that cost you a long trip. The surprise is partly on us, so we're adding a clear line about it to our shipping information. We can't give you back the time, but to cover the fuel we'd like to offer you $15 off anything in the shop on your next order. - Mateo, Iberian Direct
