Yemas del Convento de Santa Clara — a traditional Andalusian convent sweet of egg yolk and sugar, finished with a dusting of icing sugar. Made at the Convento de Santa Clara in Alcalá de Guadaíra, near Seville: a monastery founded in 1597 and still run by the Poor Clare nuns.

Serve as a petit four at the end of a meal, with strong coffee. They also sit well alongside a glass of Spanish brandy or a sweet sherry. Small and rich — one or two per person is plenty.

Why we love this

Egg yolk and sugar, and very little else. Dulces de convento are one of Andalusia’s quietest traditions, and the Poor Clares have been making sweets at this monastery in Alcalá de Guadaíra since 1597.

Customer Reviews

The USPS required a signature on the delivery. This was unknown to me. I had to drive 30+ mile to retrieve the item, vice delivery to my address.

Finca La Rosala Marcona Almonds with Rosemary – Roasted Spanish Snack – Pack of 2 (2 × 90g)

Store owner replied: Thank you for the five stars, James, and I'm sorry about that drive. Our parcels travel as tracked international post with Correos in Spain, and USPS takes over for delivery in the US. We don't ask for a signature when we post, but it turns out USPS releases these parcels against one. At most addresses that just means signing at the door; in your case the delivery didn't go through, so USPS held it at the nearest post office, and that cost you a long trip. The surprise is partly on us, so we're adding a clear line about it to our shipping information. We can't give you back the time, but to cover the fuel we'd like to offer you $15 off anything in the shop on your next order. - Mateo, Iberian Direct
