Horn of plenty mushrooms — known in Spanish as trompeta de los muertos, or "trumpet of the dead" — are a prized wild fungi foraged from Spanish forests. El Campanillo sources these delicate, funnel-shaped mushrooms and dries them to concentrate their earthy, slightly smoky flavor. A small 30-gram package delivers substantial umami for risottos, sauces, and slow-cooked stews.

About this product

Trumpet mushrooms have thin, almost papery flesh that rehydrates quickly in warm water or stock, releasing a deep, woodsy aroma. Unlike cultivated varieties, these wild mushrooms carry the character of the Spanish landscape — nutty undertones with a whisper of forest floor. Dried mushrooms keep indefinitely and require no additives or preservatives; just moisture brings them back to life.

How to enjoy

  • Soak in warm water or stock for 10–15 minutes to rehydrate, then slice and add to autumn risottos or creamy soups.
  • Crumble dried into beef stews or game dishes for added depth.
  • Blend rehydration liquid into gravies and sauces for a concentrated mushroom stock.
  • Layer into lentil or chickpea braises alongside garlic and thyme.

⭐ Why we love this

Trompeta de los muertos is a true delicacy of Spanish mountain forests, prized by chefs for its intense umami and haunting woodsy depth that no cultivated mushroom can match. El Campanillo's careful drying preserves the wild character that transforms simple dishes like risotto or game stew into something genuinely memorable.

🍷 Pairing suggestion

Perfect for autumn entertaining: rehydrate and fold into a creamy risotto, then serve alongside a medium-bodied Spanish red like Tempranillo from Rioja, or pair with a Fino sherry and jamón ibérico for an elegant starter. The earthy, slightly smoky notes also shine in wild mushroom stews with crusty pan con tomate.

Customer Reviews

The USPS required a signature on the delivery. This was unknown to me. I had to drive 30+ mile to retrieve the item, vice delivery to my address.

Finca La Rosala Marcona Almonds with Rosemary – Roasted Spanish Snack – Pack of 2 (2 × 90g)

Store owner replied: Thank you for the five stars, James, and I'm sorry about that drive. Our parcels travel as tracked international post with Correos in Spain, and USPS takes over for delivery in the US. We don't ask for a signature when we post, but it turns out USPS releases these parcels against one. At most addresses that just means signing at the door; in your case the delivery didn't go through, so USPS held it at the nearest post office, and that cost you a long trip. The surprise is partly on us, so we're adding a clear line about it to our shipping information. We can't give you back the time, but to cover the fuel we'd like to offer you $15 off anything in the shop on your next order. - Mateo, Iberian Direct
