Bastarri Bonito de Guetaria, Line-Caught Tuna in Olive Oil 425g

Bastarri brings the Basque fishing tradition to your table with this bonito de Guetaria — line-caught Atlantic tuna from the small port town of Guetaria in Gipuzkoa. Packed in extra virgin olive oil at peak freshness, each tin holds substantial, meaty flakes that taste nothing like mass-produced canned tuna. This is the fish Spanish families keep in the pantry for impromptu suppers and proper meals alike.

About this product

Guetaria has fished bonito (Atlantic white tuna) for centuries, and Bastarri honors that lineage. The fish are line-caught to preserve their delicate texture, then canned whole in Spanish olive oil within hours of landing. No additives, no watering down — just fish and oil, the way conservation should taste. The result is firm, clean, and versatile enough for a salad, a sandwich, or straight from the tin with a squeeze of lemon.

How to enjoy

• Drain and flake into a Niçoise salad with potatoes, green beans, and anchovy vinaigrette.
• Layer on toasted Pan Bimbo or a crusty slice with fresh tomato, mayonnaise, and piquillo pepper.
• Pair with white beans (alubias blancas) and soffritto for a quick Spanish supper.
• Serve as a tapa on a crostini with fresh parsley and a thread of good olive oil.

⭐ Why we love this

Bastarri represents the soul of Basque seafood tradition—line-caught bonito treated with the respect it deserves, not industrialized into paste. The moment you open the tin, the firm, translucent flakes and fragrant olive oil announce this is pantry gold, the kind Spanish cooks have relied on for generations when authenticity matters.

🍷 Pairing suggestion

Pair with a crisp Txakoli from the Basque Country itself, or a mineral Albariño to echo the Atlantic origin. For food, serve alongside white beans and grilled peppers as a light supper, or simply with good bread and a glass of Fino sherry for an authentic Spanish moment.

📍 From Spain

From Guetaria, a legendary fishing village on Gipuzkoa's coast where bonito has been line-caught for centuries. Bastarri upholds this heritage with whole fish canned within hours of landing, capturing the Basque maritime tradition in every tin.
